MANAGEMENT SERVICES
Interim will provide individual or group training to managers who will be conducting the retrenchment meeting. This training includes assistance, where needed, when the retrenchment letter is being given. This includes specific discussion of specially known difficult cases and includes:
Guidelines on how to conduct the interview.
Time sensitivity.
How to finish.
The overall aim is to equip the manager with the emotional and communication skills so that they know how to handle those difficult experiences appropriately, for the benefit of the individual and the organisation.
Given that a job is usually significant to a person's financial well being and sense of self-worth, it is important this discussion be handled both professionally and considerately. The following "Basic Steps" will help ensure this. They have been designed with three people in mind:
Firstly, the person being retrenched, with the aim to have the person leaving the discussion with:
Their dignity intact.
Knowing the support you and others will be providing.
Clear about the specific terms and conditions of their retrenchment.
Secondly, you, the Manager:
Your emotional well-being.
Your needs for support being met.
Thirdly, the work colleagues, those who remain:
They see that support is available in difficult times.
They appreciate the openness and maturity of the process.
